Schettino Calls for Term Limits for Islip Town Boards
John Schettino, candidate for Islip Town Council and a member of the Islip Town Planning Board today pledged to support and called on the Islip Town Board to enact term limits for all current and future appointees to the Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Board, and Board of Assessment Review. Schettino called for a maximum limit of two terms.
“A two term limit will give board members more than adequate time to maintain expertise, while helping to ensure that members do not become entrenched and provide greater opportunity for citizen and public participation. The public has time and time again voted in favor of term limits for public officials,” said Schettino.
Earlier this year, Schettino, a long-time advocate for good government reforms, first suggested that these part-time board members be required to pay for their own health insurance rather than have the taxpayers foot the bill.
